Road Closures on the A556 to be aware of on your travels

The new road is due to open in March
The new A556 dual carriageway is scheduled to
open to traffic in March 2017.The new 6.5km route connects the M6 junction 19 in Tabley with the M56 junction 7 at Bowdon.

Full weekend road closures
There will be a series of full weekend closures prior to the road opening. This will allow the team to connect the new road to the existing network. The roads that will be closed are as follows:
 A556 (Chester Road) in both directions from the Windmill Public House in Tabley to Bowdon
roundabout
 M6 junction 19 southbound access and exit slip roads (northbound will remain open)
 M56 junction 8
 M56 junction 7 eastbound and westbound exit slip roads and the link between the two Bowdon roundabouts.

Closure times and dates
The closures will be in place between 9pm Friday
and 5am Monday on the following weekends:
  Weekend 2: 3 March – 6 March
 Weekend 3: 10 March – 13 March
We also have a contingency weekend. The closures will only take place on this
weekend if work is delayed due to unforeseen circumstances or bad weather. This is
  17 March – 20 March
We anticipate that the new road will be open to traffic by 5am on Monday 6 March before closing
again for the weekend of Friday 10 March whilst barrier works are completed.

to keep up to date with our progress. Once this work is complete, the new road will be open for traffic and we will start de-trunking work on the ‘old’ A556.

Crime Update
Overnight 10th January 2017 a farm in Weaverham was broken into and property stolen. As a result of police enquires on 22nd February 2017 a 29 year old male Ben Gibney from Lock Street, Northwich was arrested and later charged with this offence. He was released on bail conditions to court.
During the afternoon of 21st February 2017 a further farm outbuilding in the Jack Lane, area of Moulton was broken into and damaged caused nothing was stolen. A van was also broken into on Jack Lane, Moulton. A vehicle was seen at the scene and the victim contacted the police.
As a result of police enquires Gibney previously charged with the offence at Weaverham was arrested on 26th of February 2017 for these offences and later charged and remanded in custody to appear at East Cheshire Magistrates Court on 28th February. Gibney pleaded guilty to the offences and has been remanded in custody until sentencing on 9th March 2017.
Can I remind all the community we have travelling criminals breaking into properties particularly isolated buildings. Please be vigilant ensure your property is securely secured and don’t be afraid to report any suspicious activity and record vehicle registration vehicles. We would sooner have a call with good intent check out a vehicle rather than lose the opportunity to arrest suspects.

Between 25th of January 2017 and 27th January 2017 a house burglary occurred at an address in Eaton Road, Tarporley. Property including electrical goods and jewellery was stolen. As a result of Police enquires on 1st March 2017 a 22 year old male of no fixed address was arrested in London. He was later transported back to Cheshire and interviewed regarding the offence.
He was later charged with this offence and has been remanded in custody to appear before East Cheshire Magistrates Courts today.

Between 28th February 2017 and 1st March 2017 a TAKEUCHI 3 ton digger valued at £27000 was stolen from the Bovis Housing development at Ash Road,Cuddington. After extensive police enquires the digger has been recovered in Hares Lane, Frodsham.

Speed Enforcement
Middlewich Road, Rudheath – Enforcement carried out on 13/2/17 between 15:12 & 16:05, 6 offences captured and submitted for summons.

Middlewich Road, Lower Peover – Enforcement carried out on 14/2/17 between 15:49 & 16:46, 15 offences captured and submitted for summons. Including one travelling at 74mph in a 30 zone.

Manchester Road, Lostock Gralam – Enforcement carried out on 15/2/17 between 13:40 & 14:10, 5 offences captured and submitted for summons.

Warrington New Road, Wincham – Enforcement carried out on 15/2/17 between 16:02 & 17:15, 9 offences captured and submitted for summons.

Cinderhill, Whitegate – Enforcement carried out on 16/02/17 between 15:39 & 16:27, 16 offences captured and submitted for summons.

Middlewich Road, Winsford – Enforcement carried out on 20/02/17 between 13:49 & 14:19, 7 offences captured and submitted for summons.

Station Road, Acton Bridge – Enforcement carried out on 20/02/17 between 11:07 & 11:40, 7 offences captured and submitted for summons.

Manchester Road, Lostock Gralam – Enforcement carried out on 21/02/17 between 09:22 & 10:00, 11 offences captured and submitted for summons.

Chesterway, Northwich – Enforcement carried out on 22/02/17 between 13:29 – 14:25, 34 offences captured and submitted for summons.

From Wednesday 1st March 2017 the penalties issued to motorists caught driving whilst using a mobile phone will double.
Anyone who is caught driving whilst using a handheld mobile device in Cheshire will receive a £200 fine and 6 penalty points on their licence.
In addition, offending motorists will no longer be offered the chance to complete the National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme (NDORS) training course as an alternative to receiving points on their licence.
The change could have major ramifications for young drivers, and people who have held their licence for less than two years, as they now face the prospect of having their licence revoked on their first offence.
So far this financial year the Cheshire Police has issued 2463 tickets to motorist caught driving whilst using a mobile phone up from 2062 tickets in 2015/16.
As with the previous legislation motorists will still have the option to attend court to contest the offence. However, if the court rules against the defendant the penalty could be greater.
Since the change in the penalty in the past two days Cheshire Police have processed 49 of these offences.

Drugs Warrant

At 10am this morning Friday 3rd March 2017 we conducted a drugs warrant at an address in Brindley Avenue, Winsford. A quantity of cannabis bush was recovered in the property and a 31 year old female has been arrested for possession with intent to supply. This suspect will be interviewed later and bailed pending forensic enquires.

Remember if you deal drugs in our community you have to be lucky every day we only need to be lucky once! Name and Shame the drug dealers.

Date for your diary Saturday 10th June 2017

I am once again organising a Charity Boxing Tournament and dinner with support from New Era Boxing Club and Winnington Park Rugby Union Club. The event is to raise vital funds for St Luke’s Hospice and the New Era Boxing Club.
The event will be at 7pm on Saturday 10th June 2017 in a grand marquee at Winnington Park Rugby Club, Burrows Hill, Hartford.

The night will consist of 12 bouts of ABA junior and senior boxing, a three course meal, raffle and charity auction. This will be the fifth such event I have organised in recent years raising over £30,000 for local charities. This is a great night for the local boxers to showcase their efforts in front of a crowd of 300 people.
Tickets will be £45 per head tables of 10. I hope businesses both from Northwich and Winsford and the community will support the event to raise funds for worthy causes.
