Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, make friends, keep fit, and make a real difference to the protection and conservation of this special part of the Cheshire countryside and people’s use and enjoyment of it.

Many organisations up and down the Sandstone Ridge offer opportunities for volunteering, to fit with your interests and the amount of time you have to offer. These include the Sandstone Ridge Trust, National Trust, Cheshire Wildlife Trust, Woodland Trust, English Heritage, Ramblers’ Association, Mersey Forest and Cheshire West and Cheshire East Councils to name a few!

There are lots of ways to volunteer:

• Leading guided walks
• Practical conservation tasks such as woodland management, grassland restoration, wetland restoration, hedgerow planting
• Access improvements including footpath repair, stile installations, waymarking and fencing
• Wildlife surveys and archaeological research
• Photographic monitoring
• Media and communications activities, for example, helping to design and draft newsletters, writing blogs and keeping websites up to date.
