“One of the largest local events in recent times took place today in the Parish of Utkinton and Cotebrook, centred on the village of Cotebrook with the funeral of Alistair King, founder and owner of the Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre.
It was a cold but sunny afternoon. The coffin was carried on a Thwaites Beer Dray, pulled by two fine shire horses from the Shire Horse Centre to Saint John of The Cross, Cotebrook, with people following behind.
The A49 was closed before and again after the service to allow this to happen.
The Service, conducted by the Rector Jim Bridgman, began with the playing of the Lament “Flowers of the Forest”.
The Hymns were;
‘Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all Joy’ and ‘Jerusalem’.
Fine Tributes to Alastair were made by the Reverend Bridgman and Philip Moss and poems were read.
The Church was full to overflowing and arrangement in The Cotebrook Village Hall and on the car park. Screens were provided to watch the service.
The service ended with the playing of ” Flower of Scotland ” as Alastair was laid to Earth in the Church Grounds.
May he rest in Peace.
He leaves The Legacy of The Shire Horse Centre.
