Every year we invite our residents, and anyone who wishes to come, to remember those from our Parish who went to war and didn’t come back.
Our wonderful War Memorial/Shrine was gifted by Mr and Mrs Prestwich of Tirley Garth and was dedicated in October 1918 by the Reverend Hughes and on many occasions we meet each year to remember those who fell. The land was gifted by the Arderne family and formally handed to the Parish Council in November 1949.
In the past few weeks the site has had a tidy up and the hedge has been trimmed down together with the Bus Shelter to help the area ‘shine’. Many thanks to Kath Dahill who tends the flowers and to Chris Warburton for trimming back the hedge.
One of the highlights is the arrival of one, two or three horses from Willington Stables complete with Riders in WW1 uniforms – come rain or shine. And we will be there too!

So, if you would like to join us on Sunday 13th November when we will place a wreath and have a very short service, please come down to the War Memorial/Shrine at 10:50 am.
Those taking part will be:
Dennis Mulvey – Proclaiming the King and laying the wreath
Roger Barnes – reading the names of the fallen.
The Chair – leading the service
